Ever since its foundation in 1839, Assam Company has been leading tea production in India, creating a rich heritage that we take much pride in.
We were the first tea plantation company in the world, the first to establish tea estates, and the first to ever brand and export Indian tea to the world. In 1845, Assam Company was awarded the Royal Charter by Her Majesty Queen Victoria, Queen of England and Empress of India at the time. And we take pride in that one of our founding directors was Prince Dwarkanath Tagore, grandfather of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
Upholding our pioneering role as industry leaders, we have contributed greatly to picking up the tea production industry, one tea leaf at a time.
We think of each of our 14 tea gardens as a little paradise on earth. Our first estate was the beautiful Hajua, which in the local dialect means “Abode of the Swans”. Today, merged with the Khoomtaie garden, they make our largest tea estate: Khoomtaie. Khoomtaie estate extends across over more than 1200 hectares, and alone, it presents the world with a lovely yield of 1.31 million kg. of tea per year. Other than Khoomtaie, we have 14 beautiful gardens, stretching over more than 11.000 acres, planted with different types of quality Indian tea.

Click on the leaves to discover our teaRising up to the honourable responsibility of caring for our magnificent green paradises, we make sure that our cultivation and production methods preserve and flourish their beauty, and at the same time, allow us to share as much of their natural bounties with the world as we possibly can. This means generous shade planting, intact drainage systems, retention of pruning, and balanced manuring.
This also means forecasting and counteracting the drastic effects of climate change, and how rising temperature might affect our crops and water supply.
With close to 200 years in the tea industry, we have come to fully recognise and embrace the responsibility bestowed upon us by our role as pioneers and innovators.
Neither our business objectives nor our innovation goals stop at increasing yield and improving quality. As significantly, we strive to ensure the wellbeing of our farmers and their families.
Working towards that, one of our most recent endeavours was introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Smart Drones to our plantation process.
These technologies closely monitor our crops for pest attacks and weed invasions, and deliver fertilizers and pesticides in a safer, more efficient manner, ultimately making sure that our farmers are spared for safer and more delicate tasks.
